The basis of our equality

New Feminism asserts that men and women are equal and different. What is the basis for this?

God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

This single verse is so powerful! It reflects how all humans are equal in dignity and yet there are intentionally two types of humans: male and female. Both of them are created in the image of God. Both man and woman reflect the likeness of God. All humans do.

I thought I had a lot more to say about this, but really it's as simple as that. We're all equal, despite our differences, because we're all made in God's image.

  1. I am so glad you are posting about New Feminism. I brought it up at our last womens meeting (in which I am the youngest by at least 15 years if not more) and the women were so receptive. I wasn't sure it would go well, all of them worked very hard in their lives to "prove" themselves in different ways, but they were truly glad. So thank you for posting about it so I might know about it and be able to learn about it!!

  2. BAM! There it is. That we both reflect the image of God is so clear. How we do so as man and woman is a much longer post for another time -- one I hope to write soon! :)

  3. I agree, at first it seems like there is so much to say, but really, this says it all. Thanks for pointing it out.

  4. I love this, and I love that you kept it so concise.

  5. I was just catching up on your blog and see that your pregnant!! Yippee! Are you going to change your blog name to "That Married Couple Plus One"? :)

  6. I love it! And your timing is especially great since I have been reading some theology of the "man was made first, so he's fully in the image of God, while woman is only partly in the image of God" sort.
