7 Quick Takes (64)

1
The NFP conference was great! In particular Bill Donaghy and Damon Owens, of the Theology of the Body Institute, were excellent. My husband raved about Damon Owens: "That dude's dynamite!"

I think we're going to buy the book God's Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage. Anyone have experience using that for marriage prep classes? We've talked before about helping with pre-Cana classes (although we didn't actually take one ourselves). We've also talked about becoming an NFP teaching couple. Really we're just kind of waiting for someone (ahem, God) to ask us to do something and we're in!

Well, this weekend we sat next to a couple and she asked us if we'd be interested in being an NFP witness couple. So it looks like that might be the path we take!

Our parish is doing a Theology of the Body study and my husband and I are leading one of the discussion groups. It's been a lot of fun so far! Miriam is learning a lot, too. We like to start them young.

We are looking to sell one of our cars. It's a '98 Chevy Malibu that I have loved, but its time has come. It no longer has air conditioning or even reliable heat. So what's the best way to get rid of it? Craig's List? Just sell it to a dealer? Just sell it for parts?

My husband kindly pointed out that not everyone gets as excited about water bottles as I do. I am constantly drinking water throughout the day and get a little panicky if I'm out somewhere and don't have any water on me. I even have to have one next to me during the night. So maybe I'm a little obsessive? Anyway, even if you're not as weird as me, if you'd like a free water bottle, I'm giving one away!

What do you do about your baby's nails? We will cut them one day and by the next evening my chest still looks like it's been attacked by a rabid cat. Do I need to file them or something? How would I go about biting them? The extent of attention I pay to my own nails is to cut them when they're too long, so I'm completely ignorant about all this.

I am loving motherhood!! It will be interesting to see when my fertility comes back and when the next one comes along!

  1. Elizabeth, yes, please, PLEASE teach! And then move here! ;)

Seriously, though, if you guys can teach, with your enthusiasm, you'd be a real asset to the organization. I'm all in teacher recruitment mode, can you tell?

  2. Being an NFP teacher is definitely awesome! I've missed it since living abroad for that short time.

As for water, I'm just as obsessive and upset if I'm out without any - especially while pregnant!

  3. How exciting to be an NFP witness couple! Yay you!

During the first few months, I try to clip baby's nails while baby sleeps. And actually, you can probably just tear them off, too...I've done that. They usually come right off that way at the right length (I've never torn one too deep myself anyway).

  4. So glad you enjoyed the conference.
Congrats on becoming a witness couple, I'm sure you will do great.
Generally I file or tear Liam's nails, I forget when we started using mini clippers for Lisbeth.

  5. I follow your blog and I want to say "Thank You for all that you are doing to make the world a better place. I would like to see more posts from your Husband the Scientists...you both are great."

  6. That's awesome about being a witness couple!

I always wait until Joe is in a deep sleep to cut his nails. I cannot do it any other way!

  7. About number 7 - who knows? But we're definitely excited for another baby as well!

I know breastfeeding tends to postpone the return of fertility. And we aren't technically doing the whole 7 Principles of Ecological Breastfeeding (I think we meet one out of the seven: breastfeeding on demand), so sometimes I'm a little surprised I'm NOT pregnant yet (baby is seven months old). But...all in God's time :-)

  8. You would be such a great NFP teacher! :)

I've had a lot of luck filing a baby's nails with a glass nail file. It's not as harsh as a regular one and easier to use than clippers. (I think I got mine from Sephora...) Granted, this is just for the little girl I used to babysit, but I was surprised how well it worked!

  9. We did the "God's Plan for a Joy-filled Marriage" when we were engaged. It was separate from the marriage prep class. My diocese now has six requirements for engaged couples (there were 5 when we went through, but the 6th was being implemented and we took it too, which was NFP). Anyway, it was a decent class, would have been better with a different couple as the facilitators and very few people in the class seemed to even care. It was still pretty new at the time, so I hope they have worked out the kinks now. But the content was good, or at least I thought it was! :)

I'm a water addict as well. Always have my bottle with me, but it's not plastic. Hubby bought it for me for Christmas this year and it's called a Klean Kanteen and holds about 40 oz.!! Love that it holds that much!!

  10. Maggie's nails are pretty talon-like most of the time too. I've started to file them when she's napping during the day and that seems to help. :)

You and the scientist will make a great witness couple!

I'm so glad you are loving being a mom. It's getting a lot better for me too. Most days it is such a joy. :)

  11. Love hearing about the hand of God directing you! So cool! And you inspired me with your water bottle giveaway to drink more H20!
